Job Summary
System Engineer for a 12-month temporary role based in Helsinki with hybrid work options. You will maintain and develop production virtualization and storage infrastructure, handle daily operational tasks (change and incident management), and travel to UpCloud data centers in Europe and the USA for routine hardware installation and maintenance (up to 25% of the time). The role requires Linux server administration experience (bare-metal and virtualized), familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes, and knowledge of MySQL/PostgreSQL, DNS, HTTPD, TCP/IP, and storage concepts (ZFS, iSCSI). You’ll work with the operations team to ensure 24/7 reliability and assist customer support with technical questions. The ideal candidate is mid-level to senior, technically curious, able to work in data centers, and comfortable with physical requirements and on-call duties. Must have right to work in Finland and be willing to travel within Europe; relocation to the Finnish capital region is preferred. The role offers a monthly pay range of €4,500–€5,000 with benefits and a flexible, remote-friendly culture.
Required Qualifications
- Proven Linux server administration experience (bare-metal and virtualised)
- Docker and Kubernetes familiarity
- MySQL or PostgreSQL experience
- Knowledge of DNS, HTTPD, TCP/IP, and basic networking
- Understanding of storage systems (iSCSI, ZFS) and monitoring in data-center environments
- Security-minded approach and strong documentation skills
- Willingness to travel to European data centers and to Helsinki office
- Ability to work in production environments with 24/7 operations
- Physical ability to handle 10-15 kg equipment and operate in 30°C environments
- On-call responsibilities (one on-duty week per month)
- Experience with HA databases and containerized workloads
- Office attendance in Helsinki plus EU travel
- Ability to relocate to Helsinki or reside in the Finnish capital region
