Job Summary
System Administrator responsible for operational support, maintenance, and modernization of IT systems across VA programs. Manages Windows and Linux servers across development, test, staging, and production; handles provisioning, patching, and optimization; supports Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and IAM in VA environments; maintains virtualized and cloud-hosted systems within VA Enterprise Cloud; ensures compliance with VA cybersecurity policies, FISMA/NIST 800-53/Zero Trust, and audit readiness; supports hybrid infrastructure (on-premises and VA-approved cloud like AWS/Azure); assists with cloud migrations and containerized workloads; provides Tier 2/3 troubleshooting; contributes to documentation, governance, and collaboration with VA stakeholders; requires strong security, monitoring, and incident response capabilities; standard business hours with possible extended hours; telecommuting allowed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of system administration experience in enterprise or federal environments
- Experience supporting VA, DoD, HHS, or other federal agencies
- Strong experience with Windows/Linux administration, virtualization, and identity management
- Knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, STIGs, and secure configuration practices
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and incident response tools
