Job Summary
SYEP Coordinator leads the Door/BSA Summer Youth Employment Program operations: collaborates to recruit businesses, maintains work-based learning opportunities, disseminates program information to stakeholders, screens and places students, oversees enrollment/payroll/documentation, monitors activities, conducts site assessments, plans and facilitates work readiness workshops and orientations, manages materials and communications, participates in professional development, and performs other duties as assigned. Strong emphasis on partnership building, youth development principles, data entry accuracy, payroll processes, and ability to work with diverse youth populations. Requires a Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and 3+ years coordinating summer youth employment programs, plus proficiency in relevant software; multilingual capabilities (Spanish/French/Mandarin) strongly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Urban Policy, Education or related field strongly preferred or extensive related professional experience
- Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
- At least 3 years of experience coordinating summer youth employment programs related experience, including experience supervising or managing summer youth employment programs
- Experience in establishing industry and community partnerships
- Knowledge of work-based learning initiatives to include career counseling
- Prior experience in working with vulnerable youth populations (foster care, court involved, runaway and homeless or teen parent, etc.)
- Prior experience creating and facilitating work-based learning workshops and trainings
- Demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development
- Ability to model work readiness skills and appropriate work place behavior at all times along with demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated team player who is comfortable with ambiguity, flexible, collaborative, easy going and has a sense of humor
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Experience in establishing industry and community partnerships
- Experience in creating work-based learning opportunities for students
- Ability to work collaboratively with other experienced professionals, teachers, parents, students and other stakeholders
- Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficiency in Spanish, French or Mandarin strongly preferred.
