Job Summary
Montessori Lower Elementary Teaching Assistant at Coastal Empire Montessori Charter School. Under supervision of the Lead Teacher, Academic Principal and Executive Director, supports a Montessori/GSE-aligned educational environment. Responsibilities include observing, guiding, supervising students across classroom and campus, assisting in self-directed learning and Montessori normalization, maintaining safety, following schedules, communicating with the Lead Teacher, keeping classroom materials organized, assisting in student record-keeping, supporting substitute teachers, and modeling respectful interactions. Organizational duties include punctuality, attending staff and parent meetings, participating in professional development, serving on at least one school-based or board committee, reporting accidents, safeguarding equipment and facilities, managing student behavior per Montessori principles and school policies, adhering to mandated reporter requirements, staying informed of regulations, and performing other duties as determined by leadership. Requirements include an Associate’s Degree in education or related field; preferred Georgia Paraprofessional Certification and Montessori training/experience; CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain; computer proficiency; ability to lift up to 40 pounds; strong communication and ethical standards; ability to foster positive relationships with students, staff, and families; and adherence to confidentiality. Compensation: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week; Non-exempt hourly employee; Para-Educator Grade 102; comprehensive benefits; 190-day (+10 paid holidays) calendar.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in education or a related field
- Georgia Paraprofessional Certification (preferred)
- Montessori training or experience (strongly preferred)
- CPR/first aid certification or willingness to obtain (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated computer competency (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, web-based apps)
- Physical capacity to lift up to 40 pounds
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ethical and professional conduct
- Ability to relate joyfully to children and implement positive discipline strategies
- Maintain confidentiality of information
- Familiarity with Montessori principles and policies
- Participation in safety and mandated reporter requirements
- Ability to work in collaboration with Lead Teacher and administrators
- Complete staff development activities and participate in committees
