Job Summary
This role oversees the full budgeting lifecycle for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, including budget formulation and execution, revenue and expenditure projections, enrollment forecasting, and reporting. Responsibilities include supervising budget office staff, developing and coordinating operating budgets, presenting budgets to administrative and board bodies, ensuring compliance with district policy, and coordinating with auditors and external stakeholders. Requires strong knowledge of mainframe and PC-based financial systems, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and the ability to work with principals, administrators, and other school personnel. Preferred credentials include master’s degree in business/public administration, and certifications such as Certified School Fiscal Officer and related programs. The position emphasizes budget control, enrollment forecasting, and producing annual budget reports for state and board review.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Six (6) years of experience in a responsible capacity in the budgeting field in either the governmental or private sector
- Four (4) years of experience in a supervisory position with responsibility for the daily activities of others
- Three (3) years of prior governmental budgeting work experience in an organization of at least moderate size
- Two (2) years of prior governmental manpower-management/position control experience
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
