Job Summary
Design and implement sequential, project-based units and lesson plans in your assigned specialty area, aligning activities with program goals and DYCD/COMPASS-SONYC frameworks. Lead engaging, hands-on sessions that are inclusive and differentiated for various skill levels, while establishing clear expectations and positive behavior supports. Collaborate with Group Leaders, Tutors, and site leadership to coordinate schedules, share progress with supervisors, and adapt activities based on student feedback. Complete 15 hours of professional development annually and attend all required meetings and training workshops. Ensure youth safety and supervision at all times, manage inventory of program equipment, and assist with attendance documentation. Work Monday through Friday between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM for up to 20 hours per week during the 2026–2027 school year.
Required Qualifications
- Available during after-school hours, 2:00pm - 6:00pm, (20 hours per week not inclusive of meetings); Monday-Friday during the school year and some school holidays.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in the specialty area (arts, STEM, sports, etc.).
- 2+years' experience working with children or youth in group settings (after-school, camp, school, recreational program).
- Ability to plan structured activities and manage a group independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Availability during these hours is required.
- Selected candidates are expected to work the full school year from September 2026 through June 2027.
- Mandatory orientation and training sessions will take place during the last two weeks of August.
Desired Qualifications
- Some college coursework or degree in Education, Arts, Recreation, Youth Development, or related field.
- Experience in a DYCD-funded program or NYC after-school setting.
- Bilingual language skills.
