Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Sworn Reserve Deputy supports law enforcement operations by performing security, patrol, and community service duties. Responsibilities include providing security at public functions, directing traffic at major events, transporting prisoners and supervising custody, conducting marine or snowmobile patrols as seasonal needs dictate, supplementing full-time deputies, performing patrol activities including traffic control and accident response, maintaining communications with supervisors, assisting citizens with issues such as lockouts and traffic safety, responding to emergencies, interrogating suspects and witnesses, preserving evidence, preparing reports, executing civil process services, and completing detailed documentation to support legal processes. Key skills include critical thinking, professional communication, swift problem solving, collaboration with other deputies and departments, and technical proficiency with patrol vehicles, radios, weapons, and related equipment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Minimum of sixty (60) college credits in police science, criminal justice or related field
- Certification as a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for certification within 12 months of hire
- Completion of the Sworn Reserve Deputy Field Training Officer (FTO) program
