Job Summary
Switchboard Operator at VIA Visually Impaired Advancement, stationed at the Buffalo VA hospital, handles external and internal calls, directs callers, notifies on-call physicians and hospital teams, provides patient and general information, and supports staff with crisis communication. Requires basic keyboarding and proficiency with assistive technology, strong customer service, ability to maintain confidentiality, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment and with individuals in crisis; shift options may include daytime, evening, weekends, overnights, and holidays to support a 24-hour operation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months in switchboard operation in a hospital setting or related experience
- Ability to provide documentation of legal blindness preferred
