Job Summary
Teach aquatic skills and keep students safe while delivering YMCA-approved swim lessons. Set up classes for a safe, fun environment; communicate progress with parents/guardians; maintain attendance and skill records; follow prepared lesson plans; care for equipment; stay within arm’s reach of students; know emergency procedures and equipment locations; capable of teaching ages from 6 months to adults as needed; participate in staff meetings, trainings, and events; assist with branch activities and events as assigned. Requires 16+ years old, CPR/AED/First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor certification (within 60 days) and ability to work day, night, and weekends.
Required Qualifications
- 16 years of age or older
- Certified in YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (within first 60 days of employment) or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen
- Must exhibit a stable temperament and a high degree of maturity
- Ability to communicate with people of all levels
- Have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA
