Job Summary
Swim Lesson Instructor at the Upper Palmetto YMCA (Part-Time) provides swimming instruction using National Aquatic YMCA Programs, ensures student safety, and assists with branch activities. Duties include teaching aquatic skills, setting up safe lessons, communicating progress to parents/guardians, maintaining attendance and skill records, following lesson plans, maintaining equipment, remaining in arm’s reach of students, knowing YMCA emergency procedures, teaching a broad age range from 6 months to adult, using age-appropriate activities, attending staff meetings and events, and meeting certification and safety requirements. Requirements include being 16+, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or ARC WSI certification (within 60 days), CPR/AED/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification, good communication and a positive, mission-focused attitude, and physical ability to perform duties (lifting up to 25 pounds). Salary is a temporary $10/hour rate until certifications are met, with part-time scheduling that may include day, night, and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- 16 years of age or older
- Certified in YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (within first 60 days of employment) or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen
- Must exhibit a stable temperament and a high degree of maturity
- Ability to communicate with people of all levels
- Have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA
