Job Summary
Teach aquatic skills and set up a safe, fun environment for swim lessons. Follow prepared lesson plans, maintain attendance and progress records, communicate with parents/guardians about progress, and ensure student safety at all times. Duties include instructing a variety of ages (from 6 months to adult if needed), using age-appropriate equipment, attending staff trainings and events, and being within arm’s reach of students while following YMCA emergency procedures. Requires certification within 60 days of employment and CPR/AED/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen training. The role involves day, night and weekend work as part of the YMCA Aquatics team.
Required Qualifications
- 16 years of age or older
- Certified in YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen
- Stable temperament and high degree of maturity
- Ability to communicate with people of all levels
- Positive attitude and desire to achieve YMCA mission
- Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
