Job Summary
Prepare and lead assigned swim classes with appropriate structure, instructional methods, and equipment while incorporating new skills, drills, and progressions to support ongoing development. Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to participants or their parents, greet and welcome attendees to create a positive tone, and respond promptly to member or guest needs by escalating unresolved issues to supervisors. Maintain a clean, safe, and fully stocked work area, ensuring all aquatics equipment is properly cleaned and stored after each session. Mentor Swim Instructor Level I staff, assist with onboarding new instructors, and uphold safety standards by supervising aquatic environments, locker rooms, and restrooms while following mandated reporting requirements. Wear required uniforms to align with YMCA branding standards.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain current instructional certifications relevant to the position
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training – within 30 days
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification – within 30 days
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Certification – within 6 months
Desired Qualifications
- At least (1) One year of experience in aquatics instruction, lifeguarding, or youth programming preferred
