Job Summary
Prepare and lead assigned swim classes with appropriate structure, instructional methods, and equipment while incorporating new skills, drills, and progressions. Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to participants or parents, greet attendees to create a positive tone, and respond promptly to member or guest needs. Maintain a clean, safe, fully stocked work area, report equipment concerns, and ensure all aquatics gear is properly cleaned and stored. Supervise aquatic environments including locker rooms and restrooms, enforce safety policies, and follow mandated reporting requirements. Wear the required uniform and maintain current instructional certifications. Shifts may vary.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 16 years old (or 15 with valid Red Cross or similar certification)
- Maintain current instructional certifications relevant to the position
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training – within 30 days
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification – within 30 days
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Certification – within 6 months
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in aquatics instruction, lifeguarding, or youth programming preferred
