Job Summary
Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines using prepared lesson plans while building authentic relationships with students and parents. Convey information on aquatics programs, refer families to other services, and maintain records including attendance and progress reports. Organize and store class equipment, report damages, and train or supervise assigned aides. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled, complete incident reports when necessary, and follow all safety and emergency procedures. Perform other duties as assigned, including support for the Annual Campaign. Requires current swim instructor certification and CPR/AED/First Aid training.
Required Qualifications
- Beginning January 1, 2027 all swim instructors must hold current swim instructor certification
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- AED certification
- Basic First Aid certification
- Emergency Oxygen certification
- Nationally recognized Swim Lesson Instructor certification (American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YMCA v6 Swim Lesson Instructor)
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- At least 16 years of age
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques
- Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average-sized child
