Job Summary

Instruct swimming lessons for students of all ages and abilities while maintaining strict safety protocols and emergency readiness. Build authentic relationships with students and parents, encourage volunteer involvement, and refer inquiries to other aquatics programs. Deliver exceptional customer service, manage class equipment, and train or supervise class aides as needed. Maintain accurate participant records, complete incident reports, and attend all scheduled staff meetings and training. Ensure compliance with YMCA policies and emergency procedures while communicating clearly in a noisy aquatic environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 15 years of age or older
  • Accredited Swim Lesson Instructor (YMCA, ARC, or equivalent)
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Standard First Aid
  • Emergency Oxygen Administration – O2
  • Automated External Defibrillation – AED
  • Be the Brand training
  • Ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills
  • Able to communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds from the floor
  • Must be able to lift 200+ pounds in rescue situations
  • Must be able to quickly and safely move to various locations in and around the pool area
  • Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment

Desired Qualifications

  • previous swim instructing experience
  • YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA) or YMCA Lifeguarding
  • YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor (YSL)
