Job Summary
Swim Instructor at the Downtown YMCA delivers water safety and swim instruction to participants of all ages, provides feedback on student progress, maintains supervision and safety, sets up equipment, reports incidents, and upholds YMCA standards and policies. The role requires patience, enthusiastic communication, ability to motivate learners, maintain certifications, and foster positive relationships with students and caregivers while ensuring a safe learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 16
- Current WSI or YMCA Swim Instructor or experience teaching swim lessons
- Proficient in swimming and safety skills
- Up to 6 months swim instruction experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to recognize students who may need assistance
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and remedy hazardous and dangerous situations
- Demonstrated ability to swim and tread water within Y-USA training guidelines
- Knowledge of swimming and ability to teach at all age groups and various levels
- Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of students, parents and caregivers, and other Y staff and volunteers
