Job Summary
Conduct swimming lessons for students of all ages and abilities while ensuring safety and maintaining accurate participant records. Build authentic relationships with students and parents, encourage volunteer involvement, and refer clients to other aquatics programs. Organize class equipment, report damage, and train or supervise class aides as needed. Adhere to YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and all required certifications within the first 60 days. Complete incident reports for accidents and attend scheduled staff meetings. Maintain alertness and perform rescue skills, including lifting up to 200 pounds during emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- 15 years of age or older
- Accredited Swim Lesson Instructor (YMCA, ARC, or equivalent)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Standard First Aid
- Emergency Oxygen Administration – O2
- Automated External Defibrillation – AED
- Be the Brand training
- Darkness to Light
- Ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills
- Able to communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds from the floor
- Must be able to lift 200+ pounds in rescue situations
- Must be able to quickly and safely move to various locations in and around the pool area
- Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment
Desired Qualifications
- previous swim instructing experience
- YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA) or YMCA Lifeguarding
- YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor (YSL)
