Job Summary
Sustaining Engineer to maintain automated high-throughput workflows and support day-to-day operations in a protein-design focused biotech setting. Onsite in Emeryville, CA, the role involves providing operator support for automated workflows, performing regular maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of liquid handling systems and other high-throughput lab equipment, writing verification/validation protocols and deliverables (IQ/OQ/PQ), developing SOPs and reports for validated automation processes, and building tools and documentation for tracking spare parts, service calls, and repairs. The position requires collaborating with vendors and third-party service providers, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and a background in science/engineering with hands-on lab automation experience. Preferences include familiarity with gene editing systems, genome-wide assays, asset management or ticketing systems, and experience working with external vendors. The salary range is $100,000–$135,000 USD, and applicants must have ongoing work authorization in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS in science or engineering discipline with 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience operating liquid handling systems (e.g. Tecan Fluent, Hamilton Star, Agilent Bravo, Beckman Coulter Biomek)
- Familiarity with high-throughput assay development and operation of gene assembly, cloning, mammalian screening, and NGS workflows
- Can adapt to changing project priorities and timelines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and soft skills to build collaborative relationships with vendors and stakeholders
