Job Summary
Lead the development of sustainability and decarbonisation strategies for buildings and masterplans, delivering environmental and building performance analysis to inform design decisions from early concept stages onwards. Develop and apply data-driven and parametric design workflows to support sustainable outcomes, preparing and reviewing technical reports, sustainability strategies, and client presentations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage directly with clients and stakeholders to manage sustainability deliverables, ensuring high-quality project delivery. Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of the Sustainable Design team while supporting innovation, research, and business development activities. Based in Madrid, this role requires a Master's degree in Sustainability or related discipline and 5+ years of experience in sustainable design and building performance analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in sustainable design, environmental consultancy, building performance analysis, or a related field, typically 5+ years
- Proven experience developing sustainability and decarbonisation strategies for buildings and masterplans
- Proven experience delivering environmental analysis and building performance assessments throughout the design process
- Experience supporting project delivery within multidisciplinary design teams
- Strong understanding of low-carbon design, building physics, and environmental performance assessment
- Experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), embodied carbon analysis, and whole-life carbon assessments using tools such as One Click LCA or similar
- Experience with environmental simulation tools such as IES VE, EnergyPlus, Radiance, Ladybug Tools, Honeybee, or equivalent
- Proficiency in Rhino, Revit, and Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of sustainability certification schemes such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, or Passivhaus
- Professional proficiency in English and Spanish
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Design, or Building Physics
- Experience with parametric design and early-stage design tools, particularly Grasshopper
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages
- Additional languages
- Experience with environmental simulation tools such as IES VE, EnergyPlus, Radiance, Ladybug Tools, Honeybee, or equivalent
