Job Summary
Surveyor I is an entry-level position performing routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, or other marine structures to assess classification compliance and statutory requirements (Safety of Life at Sea, Loadline, Tonnage, Pollution Prevention Certification). Under supervision, the role develops skills in applying ABS Rules and related regulations, prepares technically accurate reports, maintains survey files, engages with clients to resolve issues, and gradually expands knowledge of field operations, policies, and procedures. The position requires reading engineering plans, knowledge of ship systems, strong communication, and the physical ability to perform surveys in potentially challenging environments, including working at heights and handling PPE. Reporting to senior personnel at the assigned port location (Nanjing port).
Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two years program); or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer; Proficiency in English; Appropriate certification and/or licenses in areas of specialization may be required.
