Job Summary
Layout plate, unit, and ship construction control lines, install and align major equipment, and monitor ship construction stages to ensure fit-up tolerances are met. Provide required data to Accuracy Control Engineers and support the construction process across all shipyard areas from initial plate layout through delivery. Interpret 3D coordinate geometry, read shipyard procedures and blueprints, and operate Total Stations and data collectors. Requires a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a government security clearance within 45 days, strong math skills, and two years of construction or industrial surveying experience. Operates on a 4x10 or 5x8 schedule with optional overtime.
Required Qualifications
- Strong math skills
- Strong knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to read and understand shipyard procedures, work instruction, drawings and blueprints
- Ability to understand 3D coordinate geometry and 3D spatial relationships
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire
Desired Qualifications
- B.S. or A.S. degree in Surveying Engineering, Construction Technology, or Architectural and Civil Engineering Technology or related field
- Two years' experience in construction or industrial surveying or related field experience
- Detail oriented
- Ability to perform in fast paced industrial environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to use Microsoft office products, including Excel
- Ability to operate Total Stations and data collectors
- Ability to use surveying Software (Carlson a plus)
- Experience using 3 dimensional data models and interpreting 3 dimensional data
- Advanced computer or software knowledge
- Familiarity with 3D drafting programs
- Ability to work with cross functional trades
