Job Summary
Survey Technician/Senior Survey Technician needed in Ashburn, VA to support the Survey Group. Responsible for drafting subdivision plats, boundary surveys, easement plats, parcel descriptions, staking maps for subdivisions and site plans, and construction take-offs. Prepares topographical surveys and digital terrain models; conducts limited courthouse research; submits plats for jurisdictional approval; collaborates closely with the project manager and group leader; may substitute in the field. Requires degree in Land Surveying or related field (or 3 years of progressive survey field experience) and proficiency with GPS; 3D laser scanning is a plus. Strong communication skills and ability to read and interpret safety rules, project documents, deeds, titles, zoning, DOT plans, and engineering drawings; mathematical proficiency (trigonometry, geometry). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Associate degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Geospatial Information Sciences or related field or a minimum of three years of progressive survey field experience
- Experience with GPS and 3D laser scanning a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, scope of services, project budgets, jurisdictional platting & submittal requirements, and procedure manuals
- Ability to read deed descriptions, title reports, zoning reports, survey plats, DOT plans, engineering drawings, and aerial topographic mapping
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry and geometry
