Job Summary
Survey Party Chief responsible for planning, directing, and executing surveying operations for heavy civil construction projects. Lead field survey team, manage control networks, site layout, foundation positioning, and as-built documentation. Utilize GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, laser scanning, UAV/drone surveys, and BIM integration to deliver high-accuracy surveying data and digital models. Perform field data collection, topographical surveys, and construction stakeout for bridges, highways, foundations, and related works. Prepare sketches, maps, reports, and as-built surveys; conduct plan research; ensure data quality and compliance with project specifications and OSHA standards. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors; conduct training and performance reviews for field staff; maintain equipment and inventory. Requirements include 2-3 years of surveying experience, field-work emphasis, proficiency with robotic equipment, AutoCAD, strong communication skills, valid driver’s license, and a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent). A Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is preferred; 8+ years total surveying experience with leadership experience on industrial/heavy civil projects is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with land surveying.
- Field work experience a must.
- Current proficiency operating a robotic tool station, GPS, and level.
- AutoCAD experience required.
- Knowledge of geological description principles and methods.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes, and government regulation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive surveying experience with 3–5 years in a leadership role on industrial or heavy civil projects.
