Job Summary
Survey Instrument Operator needed to support the Survey Group in Newport News, VA. Responsible for collecting data for boundaries, location, topographical, and design surveys; operating robotic total station, level, GPS receivers, and data collectors; performing stakeout on construction projects; maintaining instruments and equipment; recording measurements and locations; and assisting with survey equipment and vehicle upkeep. Travel may be required. Requires reading and interpreting safety rules and drawings, strong mathematical skills, ability to work independently or in a team, and a valid driver’s license. Physical duties include lifting up to 50 lb and outdoor working conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to read survey and engineering drawings
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with excellent time management skills
- Current state driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle
- Physical ability to carry up to 50 lb. of equipment over all types of terrain
- All-weather year-round outdoor work environment with seasonal conditions
