Job Summary
Survey Crew Chief directs daily field survey activities and oversees field crews to provide data for boundary, topographic, and construction stakeout surveys. Responsibilities include training Instrument Operators to use total stations, level, GPS, and data collectors; establishing construction stakeouts (curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm and sanitary sewers, waterlines, structures); maintaining instruments and equipment; producing clear field notes and sketches; supervising equipment, supplies, and vehicles; and working both in teams and independently as needed. Requires high school diploma/GED with five years of field survey experience, proficiency with Leica Robotic Total Stations, GPS and data collectors (DOT surveying a plus), ability to map and process field data, and willingness to travel. Additional assets include PLS/SI (preferred), AutoCAD (a plus), valid driver’s license, and ability to carry 50 lb. of gear; outdoor year-round work with varying conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of field survey experience
- Experience with Leica Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors and GPS preferred
- Experience with DOT transportation surveying a plus
- Ability to collect field data in an organized, neat and professional manner for various boundary, topographic, design and construction staking projects
- PLS/SI preferred but not required
- The ability to compute, process and map field data will provide the right candidate opportunity and advancement
- AutoCAD experience a plus
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record required
- Must be willing to travel on occasion
- Must be able to carry up to 50 lb. of equipment over all types of terrain
- All-weather year-round outdoor work environment, with seasonal extreme heat index and wind-chill factors
