Job Summary
Scrub on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room and assist the physician in procedural areas under the direction of a licensed professional nurse. Anticipate and gather needed supplies and equipment prior to care based on procedure preference cards, escalating outstanding needs with the RN Circulator. Provide on-call coverage proficiently and report unexpected events, outcomes, counts, specimens, or breaks in aseptic techniques to RN staff and leadership in a timely fashion. Ensure specimens are appropriately identified and labeled in collaboration with the Registered nurse. Contribute to quality and performance improvement programs by collecting data on metrics such as turnover times, on-time starts, and patient satisfaction. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, give thorough reports to the relief scrub person or leadership, and participate in the orientation of new and current staff to the scrub role intraoperatively. Maintain certification and fulfill annual mandatory education program requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS Required (American Heart Association)
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA
- Certification required upon hire
- Cert Surgical Technologist
- Basic Life Support Cert
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications
- One-Two year experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist in a large complex Operating Room
- NYU Surgical Tech Program graduate
- Recent OR orthopedic sports medicine experience
