Job Summary
Surgical Technologist I in the Operating Room (UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC) works under a surgeon and RN to ensure a safe OR environment and proper instrument handling for invasive procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining sterile technique, performing surgical counts, labeling drugs and solutions, preparing instruments and drapes, assisting the surgeon and RN during intraoperative care, operating complex equipment, and mentoring Surgical Technician Trainees. The role requires knowledge of aseptic technique, anatomy, and procedural workflows, with a full-time, 40-hour schedule (no nights or weekends; 7:30 am–5:00 pm block schedule; 1–2 late shifts per week). Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program; or Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology; or Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 3+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech
- 0-3 years professional experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
- Strong communication skills/customer service relations
- Excellent organizational/priority setting skill
