Job Summary
Scrub on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room and assist the physician in procedural areas under the direction of a licensed professional nurse. Anticipate and gather needed supplies and equipment based on procedure preference cards, escalating outstanding needs with the RN Circulator. Ensure specimens are appropriately identified and labeled in collaboration with the Registered nurse. Report unexpected events, outcomes, count discrepancies, specimen issues, and breaks in aseptic techniques to RN staff and leadership timely. Provide on-call coverage proficiently where applicable. Contribute to quality and performance improvement programs by collecting data on turnover times, on-time starts, time outs, and instrumentation. Obtain and maintain Surgical Technologist certification upon hire and fulfill annual mandatory education program requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS Required (American Heart Association)
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA
- Certification required upon hire
- Cert Surgical Technologist
- Basic Life Support Cert
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications
- One-Two year experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist in a large complex Operating Room
- NYU Surgical Tech Program graduate
