Surgical Technologist (CST) -OR General Surgery

Job Summary
Provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures in the operating room, ensuring proper arrangement and availability of surgical equipment and supplies; assist the surgeon during operations as allowed by standards; assist with cleaning the operating room after procedures and routing used materials; reports to Manager. Requires completion of a surgical technician program and NBSTSA certification (or ability to obtain within one year), CPR/BLS validation, and strong knowledge of sterile technique, asepsis, surgical procedures, and instrumentation. Must possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills and comply with policies to maintain sterile field and patient safety; provides proactive support to the surgical team and contributes to high-quality patient care in a hospital setting.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a surgical technician program
- Must be certified through the NBSTSA or be able to obtain certification within one year of employment
- CPR/BLS validation and annual Validation Day required
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and ability to anticipate needs of the surgeon
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation
- Strict adherence to sterile field policies and regulations
- Knowledge of basic patient safety concepts and asepsis
- Application of aseptic principles to provide optimal patient care
- Knowledge of OR emergency situations
