Job Summary
Surgical Technologist assists in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses, maintains a sterile field, sets up sterile tables, performs instrument counts, draping, passes instruments to the surgeon, assists during procedures, prepares sterile dressings, and cleans instruments for sterilization. Responsibilities include assembling and opening sterile packs, maintaining aseptic technique, following perioperative guidelines (AORN), managing patient positioning and skin prep, ensuring proper room utilization, and coordinating with the RN Circulator. Position may be PRN with varying days (6:30 AM–3:00 PM); requires lifting up to 50+ pounds, ability to work in a fast-paced OR environment, and adherence to safety and infection control standards. Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or military program or certification as a Surgical Technologist; BLS certification required; preferred qualifications include CST or TS-C certification and prior OR experience.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
