Job Summary
Surgical Technologist sought to function as part of the Surgical Team, performing surgical scrub duties and assisting the surgeon. Responsibilities include instrumentation and materials handling (suturing, drains, medications, hemostatic agents), proper preparation and passing of supplies, assisting with optimal OR time utilization, maintaining surgical field and asepsis per AORN standards, preparing and utilizing equipment, and upholding a positive, professional relationship with patients and staff. Requires current BLS, ongoing education, and life-span patient care competency.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program, or Graduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program
- Current certification as a CST, or Current NCCT-TC (tech in surgery) certification (for applicants with past military experience only; military experience as a surgical technologist will be strongly considered)
- 3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologist
- Successful completion of a Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training program
- Successful completion of the Community College of Rhode Island's certificate surgical technologist program
- Current BLS Certification is required upon hire
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process
