Job Summary

Prepare and check assigned cases for instruments, sutures, and equipment; follow aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, scrubbing, and draping. Assist the circulating nurse in performing sponge, needle, and instrument counts while maintaining an orderly back table and mayo stand. Perform scrub duties, apply dressings, transfer patients, and set up the next case. Adapt to workload changes, assist staff with routine duties, and orient new personnel. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to OSHA and infection control guidelines. Check OR equipment before cases and function as backup in the instrument room for washing, sterilizing, and wrapping instruments.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification or the ability to obtain within (1) year
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to speak and understand English fluently
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to lift and/or move a maximum of 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians and the public
  • Ability to plan and organize work
  • Must have proficient computer skills
  • Must have professional and effective communication skills
  • Must be able to adapt to changes in the workload
  • Must be able to wash, sterilize and wrap instruments
  • Must be able to perform scrub duties as outlined in procedure manual
