Job Summary
Prepare the operating room, scrub in as a second or third assistant, and provide intraoperative patient care following established standards. Check supplies and equipment, maintain sterile fields, and assist with patient positioning, draping, and specimen preparation. Monitor aseptic technique, anticipate patient needs, and count sponges and sharps with the RN. Participate in post-operative cleanup, resuscitation procedures, and new staff orientation. Maintain department records, complete required training, and report equipment malfunctions while adhering to infection control and quality improvement policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent
- 15 CEs annually
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Completed a program for surgical technology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
- Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the armed forces or at a CAAHEP accredited hospital or CAAHEP accredited ambulatory surgical treatment center program
- Successfully complete the surgical technologists NBSTSA certifying exam
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification
- At least 1 year experience
- Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of an ORT or surgical technology program or related
