Job Summary
Assists nursing and surgical staff with direct patient care activities in the operating room environment. Performs technical duties as scrub personnel, including setting up back tables, gloving, draping, and anticipating instrument needs. Applies knowledge of surgical asepsis when arranging sterile packs, visually checks package integrity, and monitors the surgical team's aseptic technique. Ensures patient safety by following the Universal Protocol for correct side/site identification and performing needle, sponge, and instrument counts. Collaborates with the OR team to gather supplies, check cases, and report the number and location of drains or implants. Participates in staff education, unit PI activities, and the implementation of new policies to improve patient care routines.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an OR Technician training program or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience
- Must be a Certified Surgical Technician by the Association of Surgery Technologists, NBSTSA
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification required with American Heart Association
