Surgical Technician

Assists nursing and surgical staff with direct patient care activities in the operating room environment. Performs technical duties relating to scrub personnel, including smooth, precise, and efficient reaction to all situations. Applies knowledge of surgical asepsis when arranging and opening sterile packs, instruments, and other sterile supplies. Ensures patient safety through preventive measures and implementation of hospital and departmental policy and procedure. Monitors aseptic technique of surgical team and identifies breaks in sterility and corrects them as needed. Performs needle, sponge and instrument counts according to hospital policy and procedure. Participates in staff, patient and/or family education to a degree consistent with personal knowledge base. Supports and actively seeks change to improve patient care routines and departmental function.
