Surgical Technician -PRN

Job Summary
Place equipment and supplies in the operating room, scrub hands, don gowns and gloves, and assist the surgical team with patient positioning and dressing. Hand instruments to the surgeon, hold retractors, cut sutures, and place post-operative dressings while maintaining fluid supplies. Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures, then wash, sterilize, and clean equipment using autoclaves and germicides. Process, prepare, and distribute clean and sterile medical supplies, reassemble trays, and manage inventory levels. Clean the operating room thoroughly following surgeries and perform assigned housekeeping duties to maintain a safe, sanitary environment.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a program or training for Surgical Technicians
- Certified Surgical Technician
- Valid BLS certification
- Knowledge of cleaning and sterilizing techniques utilized in an operating room
- Knowledge of health record procedures and hospital ambulatory clinic procedure
- Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations
- Ability to work closely with highly skilled operating room nurses and surgeons in pressure situations
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients and their families when needed regarding surgical procedures and after care procedures
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Regular attendance is required
- Attendance at a minimum of 75% of staff meetings
