Job Summary
Prepare and maintain sterile fields for obstetrical procedures, including cesarean sections and gynecological surgeries, while passing instruments and ensuring equipment functionality. Scrub in, maintain aseptic technique, and anticipate team needs to pass sutures and supplies during operations. Perform counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the RN before, during, and after surgery, and ensure proper care and handling of surgical specimens. Decontaminate, clean, and restock instruments post-procedure. Assist with routine patient care activities, vital signs, transport, and hygiene, and support emergency situations such as stat cesarean sections and postpartum hemorrhage. Maintain competency in neonatal resuscitation equipment and stock labor rooms and supply carts. Work alternating weekends in a full-time role at RWJBarnabas Health, participating in quality improvement activities and required trainings.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Completion of an Surgical Technician training program
- Certification by the Association of Surgery Technologists as a Surgical Technologist CST, NBSTSA
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a surgical setting preferred
- labor and delivery experience highly desirable
