Job Summary
Position responsibilities include assisting in patient positioning and transfers, preparing and maintaining sterile setups, and disposing of linen, gloves, and sharps in appropriate containers. Transport instruments to the decontamination area, check equipment function prior to cases, and ensure sterile field integrity until dressings are applied or patients leave the room. Identify and label medications, inspect sterile packages for integrity and indicator changes, and verify completeness of instrument trays before and after procedures. Remove instruments from sterile drapes, report broken equipment to the charge nurse, and facilitate patient safety by establishing a neutral zone for sharps. Maintain current CPR status, assist with room turnover, and identify specimens verbally when passing them to the circulator.
Required Qualifications
- CPR Certification
- Surgical Technician Certification
- HS Diploma
- Graduate from accredited surgical technologist program
- 3-5 years of experience as a surgical technologist or related experience (i.e. sterile processing)
