Surgical Technician

Job Summary
Transport patients to the Operating Room, screen for pre-operative medications and remove jewelry or dentures, and position patients for surgery. Select, assemble, and organize instruments and supplies while hands-on assisting the surgeon and maintaining alertness for complications like hemorrhage. Obtain sterile supplies, adjust equipment such as the operating microscope and defibrillators, assist the anesthetist, and manage sponge and instrument counts. Clean the room post-procedure, sterilize instruments, and perform daily equipment tests. Work flexible hours including nights and weekends at Womack Army Medical Center.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, or Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians
- Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or other approved certifying body emblem
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a certified surgical technologist in the last two years prior to contract execution
- Certification from an accredited OR Tech training program
- Experience working in a surgical setting
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Advance knowledge of surgical instruments and techniques
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
