Job Summary
Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by assembling supplies, instruments, and equipment while maintaining sterile environments per AORN and AAMI standards. Assist surgeons during operations, participate in sponge and instrument counts, and monitor equipment functionality. Clean rooms between procedures, preserve surgical specimens, and report any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions. Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality while supporting physicians with wound care, splint application, and dressing changes. Engage in emergency drills, professional development, and required in-services. Full range of motion required for lifting patients and items up to 50 pounds; working under stress in emergency situations or irregular hours.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program
- Certificate from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting / or eligibility to certify
- BLS Certification
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours
- Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment
- Knowledge of surgical positioning of patients
- Knowledge of surgical procedures
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- NBSTA Certification as a surgical technologist preferred
- Experience preferred but new grads will be considered
