Job Summary
Scrub in for surgical cases, set up sterile fields, and assist the surgeon during operations while maintaining aseptic technique. Prepare rooms with instruments and supplies, pass tools to the surgeon, and help obtain and prepare specimens. Perform operating room counts, clean and sterilize instruments in Central Service, and manage endoscope setup for GI procedures. Clean the suite, restock supplies, and dispose of waste after procedures. Maintain sterile instrument tables and update surgical preference cards. Demonstrate discretion with patient information and handle unexpected situations with calm efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Certificate of completion of a Surgical Technician Program
- Current Surgical Technician Certification
- Current Sterile Processing Technician Certification
- Experience preferred but not required
- 45% standing
- 45% walking
- 10% sitting
- Lift patients and carry equipment up to 60 pounds 3-4 times daily
- Push/pull weights up to 300 pounds for a distance of 150 feet
- Stoop/bend and squat for short intervals during 8 hour duty shift
- Frequent reaching (above, below, and at shoulder level)
- Hearing acuity needed for understanding and following surgeon/physician directions
- Visual acuity required for recognizing surgical instruments, reading medication and package labels and expiration dates
- Manual dexterity required for handling of instruments and supplies
- Verbal communication skills needed to converse with physicians and staff members
- Works inside 100% of duty shift
- Works with hot steam autoclaves, hazardous chemicals, and bio-hazardous body fluids and tissues
Desired Qualifications
- Preferably Current Surgical Technician Certification
- Current Sterile Processing Technician Certification
- Experience preferred but not required
