Job Summary
Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields, assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies, and ensure proper sterilization and inspection of all equipment. Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety while adhering to infection prevention standards and aseptic techniques. Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfer methods, and contribute to perioperative efficiency by restocking supplies and returning equipment to storage. Maintain regular attendance and comply with all facility policies. Requires a Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing degree, 0-2 years of OR experience, and BCLS certification. Preferred CST certification.
Required Qualifications
- Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program
- Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences
- 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic techniques
- Strong understanding of sterilization methods and infection prevention practices
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly and effectively
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism
- BCLS - Basic Life Support
