Job Summary
Assist the surgical team as the primary scrub person under RN supervision, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures. Verify patient identification, ensure necessary instrumentation and implants are present, and adhere to aseptic practices to minimize infection risk. Demonstrate problem-solving skills for emergencies, anticipate surgeon needs, and maintain accurate sponge, sharp, and instrument counts while correctly labeling specimens and medications. Rotate to other clinical areas in Perioperative Services as needed. BLS certification required.
Required Qualifications
- Must meet one or more of the following requirements in compliance with CT regulations
- Successfully completed a nationally accredited surgical technology program and holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist (certification must be within 6 months of hire date) from a national certifying body that certifies surgical technologists recognized by the Department of Public Health
- Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist program
- Has not, as of the date of hire, obtained certification as a surgical technologist from a national certifying body that certifies surgical technologists recognized by the Department of Public Health
- Obtains such certification not later than 18 months after completion of such program or 6 months from date of hire
- Performed surgical technology services as a surgical technologist in a health care facility on or before October 1, 2023
- Successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the armed forces of the United States, the National Guard or in the United States Public Health Services
- Has been designated by the health care facility as being competent to perform surgical technology services based on specialized training or specific experience, including, but not limited to, as a phlebotomist, nuclear medical technologist, ultrasound technologist or central service technician
- BLS certification required
