Job Summary

Provide care and service to patients undergoing surgical intervention by assisting the surgical team before, during, and after procedures. Prepare patients for surgery, position them, and complete skin preps while maintaining sterile techniques and recognizing breaks in technique. Organize and pass instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications to the physician, ensuring appropriate surgical counts with the circulating nurse. Review supplies and equipment, set up surgical instruments, and clean operating rooms in preparation for subsequent procedures. Transport patients, specimens, and equipment as necessary. When assigned to the expeditor role, complete case carts with required supplies and instruments at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled case starts. Support the Ophthalmology service in both the outpatient surgery center and main hospital, taking call for emergent cases Monday through Friday after 7PM, on weekends, and holidays. Perform various patient care activities for laboring patients and newborn care, including drying, warming, and observation. Work 0630a-7p with weekend requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, equivalent education (GED) or post-secondary education
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) credential
  • Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program and working as a Surgical Technologist with two (2) years of experience
  • Five (5) years of full-time employment within the last seven (7) years in an Operating Room setting working as a Surgical Technologist
  • Ophthalmology Surgical Technologists are expected to take call to support the Ophthalmology service for emergent cases that occur in the main hospital Monday through Friday after 7PM, on weekends, and holidays

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Technologist in Surgery- Certified (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
