Job Summary
Assist the RN and surgeon during operative procedures of varying complexity by arranging sterile sets, preparing rooms, and moving patients under direction. Maintain asepsis and sterilization standards while providing a safe environment for surgical patients. Perform assigned duties including inventorying supplies and managing anesthesia equipment. Requires certification in operating room technology, accredited surgical technology education, and BLS-HCP certification. This role may involve flexible shifts and on-call availability to support 24/7 operations. Reports to the Operating Room Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Certification in operating room technology or surgical technology through the National Association of Operating Room Technicians
- Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology, operating room technology or a school of practical nursing or equivalent program
- Basic knowledge to perform arithmetic calculations when maintaining record of charges normally acquired through completion of high school
- BLS-HCP Certification
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting procedures and operating special computer software
Desired Qualifications
- Approximately three to six months of related experience, preferred, in order to learn sterile techniques, become familiar with anesthesia equipment and cleaning procedures, and learn inventory techniques
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with the surgical team and maintain effective contacts with physicians and hospital employees
- Familiarity and manual dexterity required with all basic surgical instruments, supplies, equipment and procedures
- Basic analytical skills necessary to develop solutions to problems concerning technical needs of surgery
- The ability to work flexible shifts
- The ability to be on call
