Job Summary
Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies based on procedure and physician preference cards. Maintain a sterile field throughout procedures while anticipating the surgical team's needs and passing instruments accurately. Handle instruments according to manufacturer instructions, including inspection, cleaning, and sterilization, and perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse. Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction, and restock supplies to ensure OR efficiency. Requires CST certification, BLS, and 0-2 years of OR experience.
Required Qualifications
- Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program
- Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences
- 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience
- Expertise in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and sterile processing
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly during procedures
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards, including safety and infection control protocols
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care
- CST - Certified Surgical Technologist
- BLS - Basic Life Support
