Job Summary

Facilitate safe invasive surgical procedures by scrubbing, gowns, and gloves, setting up sterile tables with instruments, and performing appropriate counts with the circulator. Pass instruments to the surgeon, help with draping, and maintain the highest standard of sterile technique while ensuring equipment functions properly. Account for instrument trays, escalate incomplete lists, and assist with terminal cleaning and room preparation. Identify deviations from policy, report patient safety issues, and resolve problems without prompting to improve quality care. Mentor new technologists, participate in teaching, and build relationships with clinical staff and physicians.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 Years Experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital setting
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
  • Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assistants (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Tech in Surgery - Certified (NCCT), TS-C (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing
  • Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program
  • An active team member (i.e. works additional shifts or different shifts as appropriate)
  • Is an expert in the performance and demonstrated mentorship in at least 2 specialties(i.e. spine, total joint, cardiac) and/or mentors and performs in at least 1 specialty
  • Serves as a preceptor for new surgical technologists and/or student surgical technologists
  • Exhibits the characteristics of moral integrity, honesty, surgical conscience and a commitment to upholding the highest principles of patient safety in the operating room
  • A clinical expert in theory and the application of sterile and aseptic technique
  • Must remain in original hired FTE status and shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
