Job Summary
Perform technical skill duties across all operating room specialty service areas while maintaining sterile fields and managing surgical counts. Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization of specialty instrumentation, and actively participate in instrument setup and case planning. Assist the surgeon with patient anatomy, respond to surgical emergencies, and operate complex equipment with troubleshooting capabilities. Maintain inventory, receive supplies, and serve as a mentor to new hires and trainees.
Required Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program
- Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology
- Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 3+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech
- Successful completion of service specific portion of the UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies
- Strong communication skills/customer service relations
- Excellent organizational/priority setting skill
