Job Summary
Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring equipment and instruments function properly and are sterilized according to UMMC infection control and regulatory standards. Provide basic surgical assistance to the team, managing sterile fields, handling specimens, and performing room turnover while maintaining inventory of clean supplies. Assess equipment and supply needs for procedures and follow infection control policies, AORN recommendations, and OSHA guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. This part-time role at Colony Park North requires a Surgical Tech I with an accredited program graduate status and involves occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions and seasonal volume changes.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
- Surgical techniques and equipment knowledge
- UMMC infection control and regulatory sterilization standards understanding
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills including effective interaction with surgical team members
- Team-oriented
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold
- Constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment
- Frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles
- Occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours
- Occasional travelling to offsite locations
- Occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature
- Constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality
