Job Summary
Perform as a first assistant to the surgeon in the Main OR, demonstrating advanced proficiency in sterile techniques and specialized instrumentation for all surgical specialties. Anticipate procedural needs, manage sponge and instrument counts, and maintain surgical specimens for pathology evaluation. Assist with ordering specialty supplies, positioning and draping patients, clamping, cauterizing, retracting, suctioning, suturing, and wound closure under direct supervision. Communicate patient condition updates to the RN and surgical team while ensuring homeostasis, asepsis, and infection control. Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective actions. Requires National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification, BLS/HealthCare Provider certification, and three years of diversified surgical technology experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program
- Successful completion of an accredited First Assistant training course which includes didactic and supervised clinical learning components
- National certification as Surgical Technologist from one of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Tech in Surgery - Certified by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent diversified surgical technology experience
